Dear Friend,
El Nino? Boy, was I wrong when I thought that we were going to have another dry winter. This rainfall will reward us with beautiful and abundant growth in our gardens this spring and summer. Our crews will be helping the plants by feeding them through March. Mimi is recommending the use of Alfalfa pellets to fertilize roses. An alcohol compound called ‘triacontanol’ is released into the soil when watered. You will be amazed at how beautiful your roses will look. Please call Mimi if you would be interested in this service.
Most of the sprinkler controllers are still turned off since the weather forecast calls for more rainfall through March. During the recent rainstorms, we have also seen many untrimmed trees fall over and luckily none of our clients have experienced any damage due to falling trees or branches. We are also in our last window of opportunity to correctly trim Pine and Eucalyptus trees. Please call our Certified Arborist, Martin van Zeyl, for a free estimate.
Mimi is consulting with clients for the spring flower planting season. Please call her if there are specific plants, flowers and/or color schemes you would like. We will begin planting these in March. Pansies, Violas, Cyclamen, Primroses and Snaps are winter flowers that are still available now. For the spring: Impatiens, Begonias and Coleus will be available for the shade. Ageratum, Celosia, Delphinium, Foxglove, Lobelia, Nemesia, Petunia, Ivy Geranium and Salvia will be available for sunny locations. Let us know if you are interested in some color!
Recently, while our crew was tree trimming in Palos Verdes, they found a nest with baby squirrels. Martin drove the squirrels to Wildlife Care of Ventura County and donated $100.00 to make sure they were taken care of until they are old enough to be released into the wild.
Original Groundworks founder, Roy Nakao, is back with the company and is responsible for the quality control of our commercial and industrial maintenance clientele.
