January 2010 Newsletter

January 21, 2010

Dear Friend,

Happy New Year! I truly hope that you and your family are healthy with high spirits while we travel this bumpy recessionary road. I wish each and every one of you a prosperous 2010. Although I am 44 years of age, I seem to keep learning more each and every day! I am involved in a landscape peer consulting group, The Riviera Leads networking group, I hired a business growth coach and wrangled our attorney to be my monthly accountability coach. It feels like I’m back in school! I hope all of this work will translate into how we can better serve you, our friends, who are our clients.

With the late winter rainfall, we will be rewarded with beautiful and abundant growth in our gardens this spring and summer. Now is the time to feed your citrus and fruit trees and aerate and verticut your warm season lawns. For those of you who have your sprinkler controllers indoors, please turn off the sprinklers for two to four weeks after it rains. Near the coast where it is cooler and protected from prevailing winds, we’ve had sprinkler controllers turned off for over six weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Robert, Kenny, Martin or myself.

Our planting consultant, Mimi Lujan, has begun consulting with clients for the spring flower planting season. Please call Mimi if there are specific plants, flowers and/or color schemes you would like. We will begin planting these in March. Pansies, Violas, Cyclamen, Primroses and Snaps are winter flowers that are still available now. For the spring; Impatiens, Begonias and Coleus will be available for the shade. Ageratum, Celosia, Delphinium, Foxglove, Lobelia, Nemesia, Petunia, Ivy Geranium and Salvia will be available for sunny locations. Let us know if you are interested in some color!

Luckily, we have not experienced very many trees falling over this season. It is still not too late for winter tree trimming for Eucalyptus and Pine tree trimming. Eucalyptus tree branches become heavy with canopy growth and can snap and break off during the heavy rain and wind storms. Call us to trim these if you have them near children’s play areas, parking lots or buildings.

Have a GREAT YEAR!
